Summer tops the charts again

Fort Lauderdale Major bronze medalist performance highlighted by KINEXON

Summer (attacking the net) was one of the leading lights at the Fort Lauderdale MajorSummer (attacking the net) was one of the leading lights at the Fort Lauderdale Major

It’s been quite a fortnight for Summer Ross. A bronze medal at the Fort Lauderdale Major was followed by the news that she and last season’s Rookie of the Year, Sara Hughes, are forming a new team.

We also highlighted that the 25-year-old was one the leading players at the tournament and those statistics have now been backed up by the sport statistical wizards at KINEXON.

The German-based company specializes in tracking technology in the sports industry and their data, used throughout the Fort Lauderdale Major, shows that Summer covered more distance on court (3,094m) and burned more calories per minute (12.7 kcal) than any other female player in the tournament.

Summer’s figures are away above the average for women, with 1,740m the average distance covered and on average 10.4 calories burned off per minute.

KINEXON’s technology also measures the highest jumps made by players, with Victoria Bieneck – who missed out on a bronze medal to Summer in the battle for third place – jumping the highest at 0.6m. The average jump of a player in the women’s draw was 0.47m.

Italian silver medalist Paolo Nicolai and Brazilian Pedro Solberg dominated the men’s statistics. The South American burned 14.1 calories per minute, more than any other male. The average was 11.5 kcal per minute.

Nicolai, the 6ft 8in blocker, jumped higher than any other man at 0.8m (the average was 0.71m) while the 2016 Olympic runner-up also covered more distance than any other man with 2,219m (the average was 1,749m).
