Yet more stunning images from our iconic Spike the Sun photoshoot with Phil and Lauren
Our dazzling Spike the Sun photographs with beach volleyball stars Phil Dalhausser and Lauren Fendrick went down an absolute storm across the globe yesterday.
Having attracted so much love online, we thought we’d show you more of Dustin Snipes’ extraordinary Spike the Sun shots with Phil and Lauren for your enjoyment - just click here to see all the jaw-dropping pictures from the shoot on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
For the athletes, who are both gearing up for a battle on the beach at the Fort Lauderdale Major next week, it might look like they were having a (fire)ball – but this iconic shoot was far from a lazy day at the beach.
“The biggest challenge for me was trying to line up my hand position with the ball, the lighting and the photographer,” said Lauren.
“I was so honored to be asked. I honestly didn't know how it would be possible. It seemed quite difficult to line up the elements of a clear sky with an athlete in motion at just the precise angle and all the other details that go into it, but the photographer and his staff did an amazing job from the shots I saw on his camera.”
Phil, who won Olympic gold in 2008 and secured silver the last time an international beach volleyball tournament took place in Fort Lauderdale, added: “I didn’t know what to expect but it was a good time.
“It’s a great idea but I have no clue how many takes it took to get the perfect spike – all I know there was a lot of jumping involved.
“Adjusting my jump so the sun would be in the perfect spot was the toughest challenge but the photos are pretty darn cool.”
