Splits, selfies and staying together

The latest social stories from the beach stars

The names are in and now they must wait.

A whopping 135 teams have taken the plunge and flung their hopes and dreams of a super start to the season by submitting their names into the Fort Lauderdale Major entry list.

But the players aren’t twiddling their thumbs while they patiently await the news of whether they have made the main draw or the qualification process for the first tournament of the season.

Oh no. They’re busy telling the world their stories on social media. And – as these are beach volleyball stars, their lives are far from boring.

At this time of year, teams are finalizing their plans for the new season and that can only mean one thing: new partnerships.

Canadian Olympians Broder/Valjas have gone their separate ways after five seasons together, with Kristina joining forces with Taylor Pischke.

I just want to take the time to THANK @brodes6 for an amazing partnership and friendship. Jamie, getting to know you over the past 5 years has been such an honour, I am so proud of everything we accomplished together, and I feel like in a way we truly helped each other grow and become the people we are today. And although our volleyball journey may come to an end, I will always consider you a dear, close friend. You are awesome and I wish you all the best! ✌️

Excited to start the season with my new partner and Rio Olympian @KristinaValjas 💪🏻 1 month till Florida! @FIVBVolleyball @VBallCanada

Meanwhile, eyebrows have been raised to huge heights in Brazil. Not only have Swatch World Tour Final silver medalists Pedro/Evandro ended their partnership but so too have Olympic silver medalists Agatha/Barbara.

Agatha has teamed up with new kid on the block Duda for 2017 – a mouthwatering combination that could cause some serious damage on the sand. It seems training is going well, too…

Suadas, descabeladas e felizes com o primeiro dia de treinamento concluído!!!! Saquarema, Saquarema...... borá que a gente vai pintar muito por aqui Ainda 💪💪💪💪 @timeagathaeduda #marinhadobrasil

Among the series of shock splits after the summer season was the separation of popular Americans Gibb/Patterson.

And Casey took to Twitter to give us a little insight into why he considers Theo Brunner to be the perfect new man by his side for the thrilling season ahead.

My thought process on a new partner-"Who blocks me more than anyone else?.... @lordbrunner".Excited to play defense behind this beast. https://t.co/IJ1W5OXoze

However, not all teams are thinking about splitting.

Legendary Spanish duo Herrera/Gavira confirmed their commitment to a ninth year on the sand together. Love that, guys.

Ayer comenzamos nuestra puesta a punto juntos para una nueva temporada...y ya van 9!! Yesterday we started our preparation together for a new season...our 9th season!! @jomasport @myproteines @camaltecibérica @villareal.c.f @dipuesport #myproteinES #joma #camaltecibérica #voleyplaya #beachvolley #endavant #villarrealcf

The same can be said of entertaining Italians Ranghieri/Carambula as they embark on a third season. There’s never a dull moment when these two around on Tour – and we’re hopeful to see Adrian in Fort Lauderdale. His skyball needs to be seen to be believed.

Non dimenticare mai da dove vieni, che sarà per sempre la formula del successo. Back to the roots, and back to Formia with the bro to honor this good life with some hard work 🙏🏼 #MrSkyball #theNetPatroller #beachbros #beachvolleyball #ONElove @italiateam @federazioneitalianapallavolo

The sound of Mikasas being smashed and swatted around the court morning, noon and night will once again be ringing in our ears very soon.

And plenty of the players, like us, are finding it difficult containing their excitement ahead of the Fort Lauderdale Major.

Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Brooke Sweat – both of whom will be playing with new partners in 2017 – are itching to strut their stuff on the sand.

only one month until we compete 👏🏼 #lookingforward @swatchmajorseries #teamjoanouk #florida #worldtour #beachvolleyball
