American star and 2016 Olympian Brooke Sweat dishes the dirt

Following in the footsteps of fellow American Phil Dalhausser, US star Brooke Sweat gives us the lowdown on her beach volleyball career and life on the World Tour as she prepares for the Fort Lauderdale Major.

Swatch Major Series: What’s the one piece of advice you would give to a young beach volleyball player?

Brooke Sweat: There’s going to be hard times. Keep your head up, keep fighting and believe in yourself and your team!
 

SMS: Which celebrity would you like to teach beach volleyball?

Brooke: Mark Wahlberg.
 

SMS: Give us the name of one team to look out for on the World Tour this year.

Brooke: Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb.
 

SMS: Which player on the World Tour would you never be seen dancing with?

Brooke: Casey Patterson!
 

SMS: What’s the healthiest thing you’ve been told to eat and disliked?

Brooke: Lettuce!
 

SMS: Who is your beach volleyball idol?

Brooke: I don’t know if I have an idol but I’ve always enjoyed learning from watching Misty May-Treanor.
 

SMS: What was the best piece of advice you’ve been given by your coach?

Brooke: If you go after five out of 10 balls, you only have the chance to dig five balls. If you go for 10 out of 10 balls you have the chance to dig 10 balls. So go for every ball – you might surprise yourself!
 

SMS: What’s your favorite sport other than beach volleyball?

Brooke: To play – golf. To watch – tennis.
 

SMS: What was your best and worst subject at school?

Brooke: Best – math. Worst – science.
 

SMS: What’s been the best moment of your career so far?

Brooke: Against all the odds, qualifying and competing at the Rio Olympics.
 

SMS: What’s your favorite Major Series Stop?

Brooke: This year? Fort Lauderdale! But I love Gstaad and Poreč. It’s hard to beat the scenery of those two beautiful cities!

SMS: Which club did you start playing with?

Brooke: I played junior club for USA South in Fort Myers, Florida.
 

SMS: What’s the one thing you want to improve about your game?

Brooke: Everything! But right now I’m working on my confidence in my offense since my shoulder injury.
 

SMS: Which three famous people (past or present) would you invite to a dinner party?

Brooke: Jesus, George Washington and Donald Trump.
 

SMS: Who are the funniest players on Tour?

Brooke: Ryan Doherty and Laura Ludwig.
 

SMS: Which player has the worst dress sense?

Brooke: Probably me. I wear shirts with holes in.
 

SMS: Who’s your best friend in beach volleyball?

Brooke: Kendra Vanzwieiten.
 

SMS: Funniest moment in beach volleyball?

Brooke: When I blocked Phil Dalhausser!

Brooke: I have no idea!?! :-)
